KELOWNA, B.C. - The UBC Okanagan women's basketball team scored their way to an 82-46 win over the UNBC Timberwolves Satuday at UBCO Gymnasium, earning the weekend sweep.
Scoring 80-plus points in consecutive games for only the second time in program history, 10 Heat athletes found the scoresheet, led by
Jaeli Ibbetson's 22 points.
Tied at 15 after the opening 10 minutes, UBCO broke the game open in the second quarter, filling the net with 28 points. A large chunk of that fell in the hands of Mahon, Spain's
Sofia Ainsa Lluch who poured in 13 of her 16 points in that frame alone. Lluch, who missed Friday's game due to ilness, came of the bench for the first time as a member of the Heat and got her hands on a season-high four steals.
Ibbetson's 22 points went along nicely with her 15 rebounds as the Kelowna, B.C. native recorded her sixth double-double of the season. The fourth-year forward leads UBCO in points, rebounds, assists and blocks so far this year.
Also joining in the Heat's offensive output were Orangeville, Ont's
Lauren Foullong who scored 11 points in her third start of the year, and
Temi Aina, a rookie from Kamloops, B.C., who layed in a personal-best eight points.
Nicole Pajic, from White Rock, B.C., made a pair of treys down the stretch, helping her team tie a UBCO single-game record with 12 made threes.
