LANGLEY, B.C. - The UBC Okanagan Heat men's volleyball team put up a fight on Saturday night, taking the first set of the match off the U SPORTS No. 9-ranked Trinity Western Spartans. but despite some standout performances, fell in four sets 25-18, 20-25, 25-27, 21-25.
The Heat came out firing in the match, posting an impressive 19 kills while hitting .536 percent. Second-year outside hitter

Jack Taylor of Winnipeg, making his first career start, paced the offensive barrage, posting five kills apiece to give UBCO the early advantage.
The nationally-ranked Spartans would respond in the second set. With the match tied at 15, Trinity Western went on a mini-run to create some separation on the scoreboard before pulling out the set win to tie the match.
In the third set, the Heat fought hard pushing the scoring past 25. Third-year outside hitter Renn Petryk played a key role in helping his team keep the score close, firing home five of his team-high 16 kills in the match. However, a late ace from the Spartans proved to be the difference as they snuck out a set win to take the lead in the match.
UBCO kept battling in the fourth, jumping out to a 6-2 lead thanks to Petryk and Taylor. But a 9-2 run in response from Trinity Western gave them the separation they needed to earn the victory.

Renn Petryk - UBCO
The third-year outside hitter had another remarkable match tonight earning 17.5 points, highlighted by 16 kills while hitting an impressive .406 percent.Â
Jack Taylor - UBCO
Taylor made the most of his first career start as he had 12 kills while hitting .269 percent, adding two aces and eight digs to finish with 15 points.
Anselm Rein - Trinity Western
The third-year setter from Erfurt, Germany had an admirable match earning 40 assists, two serving aces and four kills.
WHERE THEY SIT
After tonight's loss, the Heat's record drops to 1-5 while the Spartans earn another mark in the win column, bringing their record 3-3.
UP NEXT
The Heat have a bye weekend coming up allowing them to recharge before they are back in action at home to face the Saskatchewan Huskies on Friday, November 17. It's a School Day Game for the Heat with first serve coming at 11 a.m. Tickets can be purchased at the door starting one hour prior to first serve.
