LANGLEY, B.C - The UBC Okanagan Heat's women's volleyball team dropped the first game of their weekend doubleheader to the U SPORTS No. 2-ranked Trinity Western Spartans in straight sets on Friday night, falling 24-26, 15-25 and 19-25.
The Heat got off to a quick start in the match as their strong serving, highlighted by four aces, gave them an early lead in the opening set.
Amaya Perry, hailing from Chin, Alta., played a crucial role by contributing two serving aces and a powerful kill against the Spartans. Her contributions not only gave the team an early lead but also helped set the momentum for the Heat.Â
The set would stay in favour of the Heat, until the Spartans made a late pair of crucial substitutions, altering the tempo of the match in the host's favour, who would rally to take set the opening set 26-24.Â
While the Heat looked to bounce back after falling behind early in the match, thanks to some strong play from Natalie Funk of Strathmore, Alta., and Olivia Tymkiw of Coldstream, B.C., the host Spartans proved to be too strong in this match as they took home the final two sets.Â

Amaya Perry - UBCO
The fourth-year outside hitter was the Heat's leading scorer once again on Friday, nailing four serving aces, eight kills, while adding four digs and two blocks on defence for a total 12.5 points.Â
Kaylee Plouffe - Trinity Western
The third-year middle from Sherwood Park, Alta., had an outstanding performance for the Spartans, putting down twelve kills and no errors as well as two serving aces and six blocks.
WHERE THEY SIT
Following the Friday night loss, the Heat move to a record of 3-2 record in the Canada West standings, whereas the Spartans improved to 5-0.
