Women's volleyball takes a set off No. 2 Spartans

UBCO gave the defending Canada West champions a good run on Saturday but ultimately fell in four sets to Trinity Western

LANGLEY, B.C - The UBC Okanagan Heat's women's volleyball team closed off their weekend doubleheader against the U SPORTS No. 2-ranked Trinity Western Spartans on Saturday as they fell in four sets 21-25, 27-25, 16-25 and 17-25.

Despite dropping the opening set to the Spartans, Natalie Funk, hailing from Strathmore, Alta., was a dominant performer in Heat's efforts as they went point-for-point with the Spartans for much of the opening frame. Locking down two kills and a serving ace, the forceful middle made an early impact to help build the Heat's confidence against the defending Canada West champions.
Backup setter Lexi Prefontaine of Kelowna, B.C., would also make a significant impact in the match, tallying five kills with no errors and providing 27 assists for the Heat. Her play in the second set, including a crucial block late in the set, helped the Heat even up the match.
However, despite their efforts, the Spartans showed their quality in the final two sets, using multiple point runs early in each set to claim in the victory.
