LANGLEY, B.C. - The UBC Okanagan Heat men's volleyball team was topped by the U SPORTS No. 9-ranked Trinity Western Spartans in straight sets on Friday night.
The Heat, who stuck it out in all three sets, got a team-high 11 kills from
Renn Petryk, who leads UBCO with 3.38 kills per set so far this season. The Edmonton product chipped in an ace, a block and two digs in the loss.
Outside hitters
Lucas Woelders (Langley, B.C.) and
Seba Manuel (Kelowna, B.C.) recorded 8.0 and 7.5 total points respectively, while
Ashton South (Calgary, Alta.) led the Heat with three total blocks.
The Spartans got productive outings from Mississauga, Ontario's Kaden Schmidt and Surrey, B.C.'s Kyden Dmitryk as the pair of second-years each hit over .400 percent with more than 10 kills.
TWU hit .360 percent as a team compared to UBCO's .213 percent.
WHERE THEY SIT
UBCO falls to 1-4 on the season while the perennial powerhouse Spartans get their second win of the year, improving to 2-3.
