Women's basketball ends road trip with loss to No. 9 Cascades

Heat unable to contain balanced UFV attack in 87-59 loss on Saturday night

ABBOTSFORD, B.C. - The UBC Okanagan Heat women's basketball team closed out their four-game road trip with an 87-59 loss to the U SPORTS No. 9-ranked UFV Cascades on Saturday night.

After falling behind by 10 points in the opening quarter, foul trouble plagued the Heat's comeback attempt as the Cascades pulled away in the third quarter en route to the weekend sweep.

Four Heat athletes fouled out of the match with another two committing four fouls.

Coming off a frustrating Friday, Sofia Ainsa Lluch, of Mahon, Spain, dropped 16 points on 56 percent shooting from the field in a rebound performance.
The nationally ranked Cascades, loaded with front-court talent, outscored the Heat 44-24 in the paint. Fraser Valley's front court duo of Julia Tuchscherer (Chilliwack, B.C.) and Marijke Duralia (Chilliwack, B.C.) were the top two scorers for the Cascades with 17 and 14 points each.

UBCO was able to hold the country's leading scorer, Maddy Gobeil of Kamloops, B.C., to a season-low 12 points.

TOP PERFOMERS
Jaeli Ibbetson - UBCO Heat
UBCO's leading scorer and rebounder was able to pour a team-high 17 points, while getting her hands on 12 rebounds. The fourth-year from Kelowna, B.C., averaged a double-double this weekend against Fraser Valley.

Marijke Duralia - UFV Cascades
The second year centre scored scored a season-high 14 points and added six boards in just 14 minutes on court. 

WHERE THEY SIT
The Cascades' sweep sees their squad stay undefeated at 6-0 as the Heat drop to 2-4 this season.

UP NEXT
After a four game stint away from home, the Heat hit a bye week before returning to action at UBCO Gymnasium on December 1st against the UNBC Timberwolves. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. and fans can buy their tickets at the door on game day.
