Teo Ardanaz sets a new team record for hitting percentage in a five set game as Heat fall nationally-ranked Saskatchewan

KELOWNA, B.C. - The UBC Okanagan Heat men's volleyball team put forth one of their best performances of the season on Saturday afternoon as they dropped a five-set thriller (25-21, 24-26, 25-21, 18-25, 12-15) to the U SPORTS No. 8-ranked Saskatchewan Huskies at the UBCO Gymnasium.

In the opening set, the two teams traded points for much of the frame. Second-year middle Thys Weststrate, who finished the match with 10 kills and seven blocks, got the Heat off an running with his strong play.
Eventually, a three-point run late in the frame secured the set victory for UBCO and the early lead.

The second set was another tight battle with the Heat's Jack Taylor, an outside hitter from Winnipeg, helping lead the charge, firing home four of his 10 kills in the set. However, Saskatchewan would prevail in the frame to even the match at one set apiece.

The third set produced another set victory for the Heat in large part due to some outstanding blocking by UBCO.
Saskatchewan wouldn't go away, however, as they visitors took the fourth set to force a fifth and deciding frame.

In the final set, an early five-point run from the Huskies gave them a large enough cushion to hold off the Heat and take home the victory.

Teo Ardanaz a fifth-year middle from Tsawwassen, B.C. broke a record tonight that was set back in 2016 by Heat alumni Jim Bell for a five-set match.  Ardanaz now holds the best hitting percentage for a five-set game earning .800% with a minimum of 10 attacks

Despite a close last two sets and the Heat's offensive efforts putting down a team total of 21 kills in the last two sets the Huskies ultimately took the victory.
