Dhudwal sets single-game rebounding record in loss to UFV

Heat forward pulls down 17 rebounds in 90-81 setback against Cascades

ABBOTSFORD, B.C. - The UBC Okanagan Heat men's basketball team lost their second game of the weekend to the UFV Cascades as they fell 90-81 on Saturday night.

Similar to Friday night's game, the Heat fell behind early in this contest and were forced to play catchup for much of the night. Trailing by as many as 16 points, the Heat rallied once again in the fourth quarter and were able to cut the deficit to two points. But a quick 6-0 run by the hosts put any hope of a comeback out of reach.

Despite the loss, forward Jas Dhudwal of Surrey, B.C., made team history as he pulled down 17 rebounds in the game, breaking the previous record of 15 set by Imoudu Ibrahim last season. Dhudwal, who had 29 rebounds over two games this weekend, now ranks second in the conference in rebounding at 12.2 per game.

Dhudwal would also add five blocks in the game, the most in a single game in the Canada West conference this year.

Elan Kimpton-Cuellar, a fourth-year forward from Roberts Creek, B.C., demonstrated a solid offensive performance by making seven out of 11 field goals tonight. He would finish the game with 17 points and is now shooting 63.6 percent on the year, the second-best mark in the conference.

TOP PERFORMERS
Gavin Ashworth – UBCO

The third-year guard from Grande Prairie, Alta., made a notable return this week after recovering from an injury. He finished the game with 24 points, a new single game career high for Ashworth, thanks to some hot shooting from three point range as he connected on five of his nine attempts.

Dario Lopez – UFV
The third-year forward from Madrid, Spain, made a big impact on the game, showing accuracy at the free-throw line with 10 out of 11 successful attempts. Lopez emerged as a top scorer of the night, totaling 28 points.

WHERE THEY SIT
The Heat drop to 2-4 in the Canada West standings and are now a game behind the Cascades who improve to 3-3 on the season.

UP NEXT
The Heat are set to return home after their four-game road trip, with a week off to recover before hitting the court again on December 1st and 2nd for a doubleheader on home court against the UNBC Timberwolves. Tipoff on Friday, December 1 is set for 5 p.m. and tickets can be purchased at the door.
