Men's basketball topped by T-Wolves at home

As the Heat kicked off their final weekend of 2023, the Timberwolves scored early and often en route to a 94-66 win

KELOWNA, B.C. - The UBC Okanagan Heat men's basketball team was topped 94-66 by an energetic UNBC Timberwolves squad Friday evening at UBCO Gymnasium.

The Heat would get 14 points from Elan Kimpton-Cuellar (Robert's Creek, B.C.) and Gavin Ashworth (Grand Prairie, Alta,) as they played their first of two games against the T-Wolves this weekend.

UNBC would get five double-digit scoring outputs, led by Evgeni Baukin's (Moscow, Russia) 21 points. Josh Gillespie would get his hands on a game-high 13 rebounds and added 17 points for the double-double.

The T-Wolves came out of the gate hot thanks to a perfect 11-for-11 performance from the free throw line to lead by nine after 10 minutes.

A Kimpton-Cuellar alley-oop slam from Hafith Moallin (Mississauga, Ont.) would energize the Heat in the second quarter as UBCO cut into the T-Wolves' lead.
However, the Timberwolves proved to be too much on the night as they shot 44 percent from the field to take the win.

TOP PERFORMERS
Elan Kimpton-Cuellar - UBCO Heat

The Heat got another strong effort from the fourth-year forward who has scored 10+ points in every game this season. He would fire at 46 percent clip from the floor while knocking down 4-of-5 from the charity stripe.

Josh Gillipsie - UNBC Timberwolves
In his double-double performance, Gillipsie grabbed seven offensive rebounds and three steals, while knocking down 8-of-11 shots from the field.

WHERE THEY SIT
UBCO's loss sees them slip to 2-5 on the year while UNBC jumps above .500 at 4-3, shaking off their two-game slide.
