Women's basketball falls to No. 9-ranked Cascades

The Heat were held to a season-low 49 points as the Cascades took Friday's match by a score of 76-49

ABBOTSFORD, B.C. - An early scoring barrage from the U SPORTS No. 9-ranked UFV Cascades propelled the hosting squad to a 76-49 victory over the UBC Okanagan Heat women's basketball team on Friday night.

The Heat opened the scoring on the game's first possession, but 19 straight points from the Cascades put them ahead for the remainder of the Friday's match.

Aiko Williams (North Vancouver, B.C.) and Lauren Foullong (Orangeville, Ont.) provided depth scoring off the bench for the Heat with 10 and eight points respectively.

Fraser Valley finished with three players in double-digit scoring. Maddy Gobeil (Kamloops, B.C.) dropped 19 points, while Deanna Tuchscherer (Chilliwack, B.C.), daughter of Cascades' Head Coach Al Tuchscherer, scored 17 and Bernie Leda of Vancouver, B.C., poured in 16 of her own. 

TOP PERFORMERS
Maddy Gobeil - UFV Cascades

The leading scorer in U SPORTS is averaging 21.5 points per game this season. Gobeil poured in a game-high 19 points on Friday night while the fourth year added 12 rebounds for her first double-double of the year.

Jaeli Ibbetson - UBCO Heat
The local product from Kelowna, B.C., Ibbetson led her team with 13 points and nine rebounds. In 28 minutes, she also chipped in an assist, a block and a steal.

WHERE THEY SIT
The loss sees the Heat fall to 2-3 on the year while the Cascades stay undefeated at 5-0.
