CALGARY - The UBC Okanagan Heat women's volleyball team repeated Friday night's performance with another four set victory (25-23, 25-15, 21-25, 25-18)Â over the Mount Royal Cougars on Saturday to secure the weekend sweep and win their third game in a row.
Dominating the match from the service line, the Heat came out fired up and locked down the first set. Outstanding performances from Amaya Perry from Chin, Alta., who found three crucial kills, and Lexi Prefontaine, the Kelowna product, who went on a service run late in the set to give UBCO the lead, helped give the Heat the early advantage.
Coming off an exciting first set win, Perry would dominate once more, taking an early lead off the Cougars with two early serving aces, setting the tone for the Heat. Shortly afterwards, Hellen Lacava, from Mandaguari, Brazil, dropped two consecutive kills as the Heat pulled away to win the second set 25-15.Â
The third set would go the way of the Cougars and Mount Royal carried that momentum into the fourth set taking a three-point lead midway through the set. However,
a strategically timed timeout from Heat head coach Steve Manuel disrupted the momentum of the match which was shortly followed by an Olivia Tymkiw (Coldstream, B.C) serving streak, rewarding the Heat with a four point advantage which ultimately led the Heat to their second victory of the weekend.
