Men’s basketball struggles in opening quarter in loss to UFV

The Heat were unable to contain the Cascades' efficient three-point shooting on Tuesday night at The Furnace

KELOWNA, B.C.-  Dylan Kinley had a big game for the visiting UFV Cascades as they knocked off the UBC Okanagan Heat men's basketball team 99-82 on Tuesday evening at The Furnace.

The game, which was the first of two at UBCO to make up for postponed games in November, saw the Cascades roar out to a 20-point lead after the opening quarter thanks to the play of Kinley, who finished the game with seven three pointers and 33 points.

Gus Goerzen (Roberts Creek, B.C.) tried to keep the Heat within striking distance as he finished with a team-high 17 points and five threes. He also poured in five rebounds on the night.

Lansana Nwosu (Scarborough, Ont.) provided a boost off the bench with his constant pressure on defence and tough finishing at the basket. Nwosu finished the game seven points, three rebounds and three steals.
However, their efforts weren't enough to bring the Heat back as the Cascades made difficult shots all night, and they were particularly efficient from behind the arc. UFV, who entered the game as one of the worst three-point shooting teams in the conference, finished 12-of-17 from three-point range.
