KELOWNA, B.C.- Third-year guard
Gus Goerzen was once again a major contributor for the UBC Okanagan men's basketball team on Wednesday night as he recorded a double-double to lead the Heat to a 101-87 victory over the UFV Cascades at The Furnace.
Paced by Goerzen's (Roberts Creek, B.C.) 24 points and 12 rebounds, as well as contributions throughout the lineup, the Heat set a new school record for points in a game, breaking the old mark of 97 set back in 2018 against Trinity Western. Every Heat player that entered the game scored and four players scored more than 15 points.
Keaton Souster (Sherwood Park, Alta.) and
Elan Kimpton-Cuellar (Roberts Creek, B.C.) also set new personal bests for points scored in a single game with the Heat. Souster was scorching hot as he finished with 16 points, including shooting 3-for-5 from beyond the arc. Meanwhile, Kimpton-Cuellar was playing tough down low as he made a team-high nine free throws leading to his career-high 17 points.
Dario Lopez (Madrid, Spain) was a lone bright spot for the Cascades as he finished with a team-high 28 points to go along with eight rebounds.
