Women's basketball suffers setback against Cougars

Mount Royal earned the weekend split with the Heat after shooting 46 percent from the floor on Saturday

KELOWNA, B.C. - The Mount Royal Cougars scored a season-high 83 points en route to a 83-63 victory against the UBC Okanagan Heat women's basketball team on Saturday night at The Furnace.

The Cougars starting five combined for 59 points, with four players in double digits as Mount Royal shot 46 percent from the floor. The Heat, who also had four players with 10+ points, shot under 30 percent for only the second time this season.

Mount Royal's Jamie Lalor, from Red Deer, Alta., and Jordan Blaskin, of Calgary, each had 14 points in their team's win.

For UBCO, Sofia Ainsa Lluch, from Mahon, Spain, had a team-high 12, while Kelsey Falk of Vernon, B.C., Jaeli Ibbetson of Kelowna, B.C., and Abby Smith of Winnipeg had 11 apiece. 

TOP PERFORMERS
Kelsey Falk - UBCO Heat
Making her 50th appearance in Heat colours, Falk dropped a 11-point, 11-rebound double-double. The third year ranks 14th all-time in games played for UBCO and seventh in games started with 49.
  Tanis Metcalft - MRU Cougars 
The fourth-year transfer from UBC recorded eight points while setting team-highs in assists with five and rebounds with eight.

WHERE THEY SIT
After Saturday's outcome, both teams sit at the .500 mark for the season with UBCO at 7-7 and Mount Royal at 6-6. The Heat and Cougars are tied for ninth in the conference standings.
