Big second-half pushes women's basketball past Cougars

Down one at half, the Heat rallied in the final 20 minutes of Friday's match, coming out with a 77-61 win

KELOWNA, B.C. - The UBC Okanagan Heat women's basketball were able to outscore the Mount Royal Cougars 43-26 in the second half en route to a 77-61 victory Friday night at The Furnace.

On home court, Kelowna's Jaeli Ibbetson poured in 17 of her game-high 21 points in the second half of the match, while Rachel Hare, also from Kelowna, B.C., chipped in with a season-high 13 points in her second start of the season.

Sofia Ainsa Lluch of Mahon, Spain, got the offence going for the Heat with 10 points in the first quarter. The fourth-year guard finished the match with 18 points and six rebounds.
  The Heat were able to force 18 turnovers on the night while giving up 17. The Heat are now 6-1 when they give up less than 20 turnovers in a game.

TOP PERFORMERS
Jaeli Ibbetson - UBCO
The third-year forward had a team-high 21 points and capped off the win with a career-high eight assists while grabbing five boards, one steal and one block.
Jenessa Ramsoomair - MRU
Mount Royal's leading scorer this season, Ramsoomair, a rookie from Leduc, Alta., had 19 points off 8-of-16 shooting. She secured the double-double with 14 rebounds, seven of which came on the offensive glass.

WHERE THEY SIT
With both teams sitting at .500 heading into the match, the Heat squeeze back above the even mark, holding a 7-6 record on the year. The Cougars, who had won four of their past five, slip to 5-6 on the season.
