KELOWNA, B.C. - The UBC Okanagan Heat basketball and volleyball teams continue their push for the Canada West playoffs this week. The Heat basketball teams will be in action at home as they host the Mount Royal Cougars while UBCO's volleyball programs square off with their rivals from Vancouver, the UBC Thunderbirds.

The Heat (4-8) host the Cougars (6-4) sitting one game back of a playoff spot. UBCO is 5-11 all-time against the Cougars (3-5 at home), with the teams last seeing each other during the 2018 season. The Heat came victorious 80-78 off the back of then-rookie Hafith Moallin's 21-point, six-rebound, six-steal performance.

UBCO (6-6) recorded a pair of wins over a six-game stretch against nationally ranked opponents and have returned home to face the Cougars (5-5). Third-year forward Jaeli Ibbetson is on pace to break a UBCO scoring record with 15.4 points per game and is averaging 19.3 points and 13.0 rebounds over her past three outings. UBCO boasts a 9-7 record all-time against the Cougars (5-3 at home).

The Heat (4-10) look to kick their six-game slide against the Thunderbirds (8-6). UBCO won three of four meetings against the Thunderbirds a year ago, winning their three matches in straight sets. Currently, the Heat sit two-games back of Manitoba for the final spot in the playoffs.

The Heat (8-6) have a tough task in front of them, taking on the No. 3 Thunderbirds (12-2). UBCO, winners of three straight, will lean on Sydney Grills, who ranks second in the conference in kills per set. The Heat took two of three games from the T-Birds last season.
