KELOWNA, B.C. – UBCO Heat men's basketball guard
Jalen Shirley was recognized as a Canada West Third Team All-Star on Thursday morning as the conference announced its three all-star teams and all-rookie team.
With the honour, Shirley, a native of Brampton, Ont., becomes the first Heat men's basketball player to be named as a Canada West all-star since UBCO joined the conference in 2011-12.
Playing in his fifth and final year of eligibility in 2025-26, Shirley had a season for the ages as he closed out his university career. He poured in 416 points, while adding 75 assists, 71 rebounds, and 42 steals. His 20.8 points per game ranked second overall in the conference while his steals total was third-best in Canada West. He also ranked 12
th in the conference for assists and his 81 free throws made was fourth overall.
Shirley also set multiple single-season team records, including total points, breaking his previous record of 359 from the 2023-24 campaign, as well as field goals made with 148.
Memorably, in the final game of his UBCO career, Shirley set the Heat record for most points in a career as well as most assists in a career. He finishes his time in blue and gold with 1497 points and 344 assists.
