Women's soccer knocks off UFV on Homecoming weekend

Amanda White netted her fourth goal of the season while Molly Race picked up her second clean sheet to lead the UBCO Heat to a 1-0 win over the UFV Cascades on Friday night.

KELOWNA, B.C. – Led by Amanda White's fourth goal of the season, the UBC Okanagan Heat women's soccer team knocked off the UFV Cascades by a score of 1-0 on Friday night at Nonis Sports Field.

Playing in front of a loud Homecoming crowd, White, a native of Ottawa, scored in the 32nd minute of the match off a great feed from Annika Gross of Victoria.

White now sits one goal back of the team record for most goals in a season, set last year by Stefanie Young of Kelowna, B.C.

The Heat had many other opportunities to extend the lead in the second half including a fantastic strike from Abigail Taneda of West Kelowna, B.C., that just sailed over the bar.

UFV had a couple opportunities as well but the goalkeeping of Molly Race of Vernon, B.C., kept the Cascades off the scoreboard as she finished the game with three saves to pick up her second clean sheet of the year.
