Game Recap: Women's Soccer | | Nicholas Taylor

Women's soccer drops narrow decision to No. 2 Spartans

The Heat held the reigning national silver medalists to a season-low nine shots but were unable to generate much offence of their own in a 2-0 loss on Saturday afternoon at Nonis Sports Field

KELOWNA, B.C. - The UBC Okanagan Heat women's soccer went toe-to-toe with the No. 2-ranked Trinity Western Spartans on Saturday afternoon but dropped a narrow 2-0 decision at Nonis Sports Field.

Trinity Western got the scoring started in the 32nd minute of the match with a fantastic strike from Tilly James of Vancouver. That gave the Spartans a 1-0 lead going into the half.

The second half was a lot of back and forth play in which both teams could not capitalize on opportunities. In the 88th minute of the match, with the Heat pushing for an equalizer, James netted her 2nd goal of the game on a counter attack to give the Spartans some insurance.

The Heat played very well defensively in the match, holding the Spartans to a season-low nine shots and limiting their offensive opportunities, but unfortunately they were not able to create much in the Spartans half.

The second-year forward was all over the match netting two goals, while also attempting five shots on goal.

WHERE THEY SIT

The loss puts the Heat's record at 2-4-2 as they continue to sit in fifth place in the Pacific divison. Meanwhile, the Spartans improve to 6-1-1 and maintain their solid hold on second place in the division.
