Men’s basketball can’t contain Cougars’ strong second half

Carter Millar and Brayden Kuski combine for 54 points to power Regina past the Heat 86-81

KELOWNA, B.C.- Carter Millar and Brayden Kuski were a dominant duo for the Regina Cougars on Friday evening as they combined for 54 points and 13 threes in an 86-81 victory over the UBC Okanagan Heat men's basketball team at The Furnace.

Trailing 49-39 at halftime, Millar and Kuski, both from Regina, Sask., took over the contest as they played every minute of the final half to lead their team to the win. Millar finished the contest with a double-double of 31 points and 17 rebounds while Kuski added 23 points.

Liban Yousef (Edmonton) was a spark off the bench for the Heat. Returning from injury, he was a flamethrower from three as he finished the game 4-for-5 from deep to collect 17 points to go along with five rebounds.  
Jalen Shirley (Brampton, Ont.) was once again a leader for the Heat on offence and defence. He tied Yousef with a team-high 17 points while playing tough defence which led to his four steals. 
 
TOP PERFORMERS
Liban Yousef – UBCO

The fourth-year guard was a big spark off the bench for the Heat. With the game going back and forth, Yousef went to work from behind the arc. His limitless range kept the Heat within striking distance the entire game. He finished with 17 points and five rebounds.
 
Carter Millar – Regina
The fifth-year forward was an absolute force for the Cougars on Friday evening. He finished the game with 31 points while making six threes. Millar was very active on the boards as he grabbed 17 rebounds. He was a tough matchup on defence as well as he finished with four steals.
 
WHERE THEY SIT
The loss snaps the Heat's two-game win streak as they fall to 2-5 in the Canada West standings. Meanwhile, the Cougars improve to 5-2 thanks to their fourth win in five games.
 
UP NEXT
The Heat will be back in action at The Furnace on Saturday December 3rd as they take on the Regina Cougars in their final game before the holiday break. Game time is set for 5 p.m. and tickets for the game can be purchased at the door.
