Women's basketball settles for split with loss to No. 3 Cascades

Julia Tuchsherer's career night leads UFV past Heat on Saturday at The Furnace

KELOWNA, B.C. - The UBC Okanagan Heat women's basketball team was topped 93-61 Saturday afternoon at The Furnace by the U SPORTS No. 3-ranked UFV Cascades who rallied off the back of Julia Tuchscherer's career-night.

Tuchscherer, from Chilliwack, B.C., had a memorable night for her Cascades dropping 35 points and 14 rebounds in her team's win.

For the Heat, Sofia Ainsa Lluch, of Mahon, Spain had a team-high 18 points, while Kelsey Falk, of Vernon, B.C., chipped in 11 points to go along with her team-best eight rebounds.

The Heat took the lead in the first quarter, looking to get their second upset win in as many days but Fraser Valley held strong, shooting 52.8 percent over the final three frames to run away with the victory.

TOP PERFORMERS
Jaeli Ibbetson - UBCO 
The third-year forward from Kelowna, B.C., had an efficient game for the blue and yellow, scoring seven points while adding seven rebounds and five assists in 24 minutes.

Julia Tuchscherer - UFV
The second-year had a game on Saturday, recording a career-high 35 points in the win. Her performance is tied for the most points scored in a Canada West game this season, shooting 14-of-23 from the field and 7-of-11 from the foul line.

WHERE THEY SIT
The loss snaps UBCO's five-game win streak and sees their record move to 5-3 on the season, good for a tie for seventh in Canada West. The Cascades get back in the win column and increase their lead as the first-place team in the conference, sitting at 7-1.

UP NEXT
The Heat continue their home stand with another nationally ranked matchup. Next Friday, UBCO host the No. 1-ranked Regina Cougars at 5 p.m. Tickets are available at the door on game day.
