Men's Volleyball sweeps TRU with another five-set victory

Rookie Seba Manuel delivers the best performance of his career as the Heat get back to .500 with a weekend sweep of the WolfPack

KELOWNA, B.C. – The UBC Okanagan Heat men's volleyball team came back after being down two sets to one, completing the weekend sweep over the TRU WolfPack with a five-set victory on Saturday night at The Furnace.

Heat captain Teo Ardanaz (Tsawwassen, B.C.) would be a key piece in leading the Heat towards their comeback victory, contributing multiple crucial blocks throughout the match.

After going down two sets to one for the second straight night, the Heat came into the fourth set with renewed momentum, battling TRU to a 25-23 set finish. Renn Petryk (Edmonton, Alta.) added four of his 17 kills in the fourth set, as well as two blocks, while Ardanaz paired up with Seba Manuel (Kelowna, B.C.) to block an attack from TRU's Sam Flowerday (Proserpine, AUS), earning the set-winning point.
The momentum of the fourth set win carried over into the fifth for the Heat when powerhouses Ardanaz and Petryk paired up to secure the weekend sweep over the TRU rivals. The two would add a couple kills early in the set, but their key moments would come later when they contributed to the Heat's four-point run to finish the set. The combined force of Ardanaz and Petryk's block, followed by a kill by Ardanaz would give the Heat the match point. Ardanaz would then set up Manuel, who hammered down a kill to complete the set 15-11.
