Women's basketball outlast Wolfpack in Kamloops

Heat use early second-half run to pull away from TRU and win their third straight game

KAMLOOPS, B.C. - The UBC Okanagan Heat women's basketball team turned up the intensity in the second half of Friday's match at the Tournament Capital Centre, coming out victorious 57-50 over their rivals, the Thompson Rivers WolfPack.

Tied at half, the Heat came out of the break hungry with a pair of quick baskets from Kelsey Falk, of Vernon, B.C., who led the Heat on a 7-0 run. That gap would hold up over the rest of the game to give the Heat their third straight victory.
In the win, Sofia Ainsa Lluch, from Mahon, Spain had six points, eight rebounds and a notable six steals - one off the UBCO program record.

TOP PERFORMERS
Kelsey Falk - UBCO 
The third-year guard led her squad in scoring and rebounding, recording her first double-double of the season with 14 points and 11 boards.

Josi Mackie - TRU
Mackie, a second-year from Cranbrook, B.C., had a team-high 15 points and nine rebounds for the WolfPack.

WHERE THEY SIT
UBCO's third straight win sees the Heat get above .500, to 3-2 on the year, while the WolfPack will have to wait to get in the win column, sitting at 0-3.

PRESIDENTS' CUP
The win, combined with women's volleyball's victory, gives the Heat a commanding 3-1 lead in the series with the WolfPack. The Heat need one victory on Saturday to win the Presidents' Cup for the second straight year.
