KAMLOOPS, B.C. - It was all UBC Okanagan, early and often, Saturday at the Tournament Capital Centre, as the Heat women's basketball team came out victorious, with a convincing 91-56 win over the hosting TRU WolfPack to reclaim the Presidents' Cup.
The Heat, who led for over 37 minutes in the match, used a 15-0 run coming out of the second half to jump out by more than thirty points. Sofia Ainsa Lluch, of Mahon, Spain, was dominate once again for UBCO as she was in triple-double territory for a third-straight game.
Lauren Foullong, a native of Kelowna, B.C., provided big scoring minutes off the bench, dropping 14 points in 16 minutes, while hitting 4-of-6 shots from beyond the arc.
This was the second time in program history the Heat have scored 90 points in a game, the first coming last Sunday against Manitoba, as all 11 UBCO players who touched the court got on the scoresheet.
The Heat shot the lights out from deep, going 11-for-23 for the most made three's this season and the most in a game since the 2012-13 season.
TOP PERFORMERS
Sofia Ainsa Lluch - UBCO
Lluch continues to get closer and closer to becoming the first Heat athlete to record a triple-double and tonight was no exception. The Spanish guard recorded a team-high 16 points to go along with her seven rebounds and seven assists.
Josie Mackie - TRU
Mackie was one of three members of the WolfPack to hit double figures on the evening, finishing with 11 points and eight rebounds.
WHERE THEY SIT
UBCO's win extends their winning streak to four games, one shy of their program's longest and pulls them to 4-2 on the season. The Heat sit in eighth place in Canada West. For Thompson Rivers, the loss, their fourth straight to start the season, leaves them at 0-4 and in a tie for 14th in the conference.
PRESIDENTS' CUP
With the winner of this game claiming the 2022-23 Presidents' Cup, the Heat put an exclamation mark on this year's competition, never giving the WolfPack a hope of coming back to claim the trophy. This marks the second consecutive year, and fourth time in the last nine year's held, that UBCO has claimed the women's series.
