CALGARY, ALTA. – Led by a 15-point performance from Renn Petryk, the UBC Okanagan Heat men's volleyball team took down the Calgary Dinos in straight sets on Friday night in Calgary.
The Heat started off the match with an impressive comeback in the opening set, as they trailed by as many as eight points by rallied to win the opener 26-24. Trailing 12-20, the Heat battled back against the Dinos, going on a six-point run later in the set to lead 24-23. From there, the Heat rallied to take the set on back-to-back kills from Petryk of Edmoton, and Keaton Mann of Ladner, B.C.
The scoring would be close through most of the second set, however, UBCO was able to capitalize off of the momentum from the first-set comeback win and began to pull away from the Dinos at the mid-point of the set. Thys Weststrate of Kelowna, B.C., would secure the set win 25-21, with a kill assisted by Zach van Geel of Calgary.
Petryk took the lead for the Heat in the third set, earning eight of his 14 kills in the final set, including the kill to set up match point. Rookie Ashton South of Calgary, would throw down the final kill for the Heat, taking the set 25-20.

Renn Petryk – UBCO
The second year outside hitter would set a personal best for the most kills in a single match with 14. He also tallied two blocks and five digs for the Heat in his 15-point performance.
Louis Kunstmann – CGY
The second year middle would lead the Dinos in their efforts, contributing 11.5 points, including eight kills and five blocks.
WHERE THEY SIT
After the weekend's action, the Heat's record rises to 2-3 on the season as they move into a tie for eighth place in the conference. Meanwhile, the Dinos' season-opening struggles continue as they remain winless at 0-5.
