Men's Soccer's playoff hopes halted by Thunderbirds

Heat eliminated from Canada West postseason contention as they suffer 7-0 defeat to UBC

VANCOUVER – The UBC Okanagan Heat men's soccer team's hopes of clinching a playoff spot was shut down by their sister school, the No. 8-ranked UBC Thunderbirds, in a 7-0 loss on Friday night in Vancouver.  
 
UBC opened up the scoring in the third minute of play with a goal by Markus Kaiser (Calgary.). From there, the host squad took control of the match, adding two more goals in the first half, then four in the second half for a total of seven unanswered goals.
 
TOP PERFORMERS
Alex Sol – UBCO

The second-year midfielder out of Langley, B.C., would a see the full 90 minutes of action in the Friday night affair. Sol contributed one of the Heat's best scoring opportunities of the night with a shot in the 41st minute.
 
Victory Shumbusho – UBC
The fifth-year forward, hailing from Chilliwack, B.C., would lead the Thunderbirds' offensive efforts, contributing two goals on four shots on goal.
 
WHERE THEY SIT
With tonight's loss, the Heat's record falls to 4-6-4 as they were officially eliminated from Canada West postseason contention. Meanwhile the Thunderbirds secured top spot in the Pacifici division as they increased their record to 9-3-2 on the season.
 
UP NEXT
The Heat's road trip will continue as they head to Victoria, B.C. to take on the Victoria Vikes on Saturday night in their final match of the regular season. The game is set to kickoff at 7:15 p.m. and the action can be watched live on Canada West TV.
