Men's soccer season comes to an end with loss to Victoria

Rookie forward Matteo Bigattini scored for the third time this season but two late goals from the Vikes handed the Heat a 3-1 defeat

VICTORIA, B.C. - The UBC Okanagan Heat men's soccer team's season came to an end on Saturday evening as they dropped a 3-1 decision to the Victoria Vikes.

Coming into the second half down a goal, Matteo Bigattini of Kelowna, B.C., scored off a corner to tie the game. However, the Vikes responded in the 74th and added an insurance tally in the 90th to secure the victory.

Matteo Bigattini - UBCO

The rookie forward was a fierce competitor for the Heat on Saturday night. His high motor rewarded him with the Heat's final goal of the season. He finished the game with three shots, two on target, in 78 minutes.

Sylvain Taghaoussi - Victoria 
The fourth year forward from Victoria came off the bench hungry as he fired home two goals on Saturday evening, including the game winner in the 74th minute.

SEASON WRAP UP
The loss drops the Heat's record to 4-7-4 for the season as they finish seventh in the Canada West Pacific division. Despite missing out on the postseason, the Heat's young roster showed flashes of potential as they went 4-1-3 through the middle portion of their schedule.

UBCO also established a new season-best performance for offensive output since they joined the Canada West conference as they scored 20 times in 15 games, led by second-year forwards Malachi Emerson of Surrey, B.C. and Jacobo Saenz Ramos of Monterrey, Mexico who scored five and four times respectively.
