Box Score PRINCE GEORGE, B.C. – The UBC Okanagan Heat women's soccer team suffered a tough loss on Saturday evening as they fell 3-2 to the UNBC Timberwolves at Masich Place.
The Heat got off to a dream start as they jumped out to a 2-0 lead on the strength of goals from Stefanie Young of Kelowna, B.C. and Yvonne Manwaring Kamloops, B.C.
For Young, the goal was her third of the season through the team's opening six games leaving her one shy of the team record for goals in a season since the Heat joined Canada West prior to the 2014 campaign.
However, it was a completely different story in the second half for the Heat.
The Timberwolves came storming out of the gate and before the half was even 10 minutes old, they had scored twice through Kjera Hayman of Penticton, B.C., and Monika Johnson of Surrey, B.C.
UBCO rookie keeper Molly Race of Vernon, B.C., did her acrobatic best to keep her team in the mix as the hosts continued to pour on the pressure, making an impressive save moments after the Johnson's tying goal, one of her four saves in the contes.
But minutes later, it was Hayman again, pouncing on a loose ball off another Race save to give UNBC the lead.
That goal would be all the Timberwolves would need as they came away with their first win of the season.
With the loss, the Heat fall to 0-3-3 on the season as they now sit one point behind the Timberwolves, who own a 1-6-1 record, for fourth in the Canada West West division.
UBCO will look to rebound from the setback next weekend when they travel to Vancouver to take on the No. 4-ranked UBC Thunderbirds on Friday, October 8 and Saturday, October 9.
