Competing at her first Canada West Golf Championships, Ayda Matthews wasted little time in establishing herself as one of the conference’s top competitors, finishing one stroke away from making the podium. The first-year golfer carded an eight-over-par 150 over two rounds to place fourth overall, which earned her Canada West First Team All-Star honours. After shooting a five-over-par 77 in the opening round, Matthews improved on the second day, finishing with a three-over-par 73 that featured four birdies. A key stretch on the 12th and 14th holes saw Matthews ink two birdies on both par threes, helping lead to a strong finish. Her tournament performance played a key role in a program milestone, as the Heat women’s golf team captured their fourth consecutive conference silver medal.
