McNeil brought home her first conference gold medal, and the first for the Heat since 2021, this past weekend at the Canada West Championships in Victoria. The third-year Master’s of Science (Sustainability) major who had twice previously won silver at the event, held off a stiff challenge from Victoria's Madelyn Eybergen to win the race in 27 minutes and 44 seconds. Her performance not only earned her the gold medal but also conference Athlete of the Year honours as well as a nod as a Canada West First Team All-Star.
 
This marks the first time this season, and third time in his career, that McNeil has been named an Athlete of the Week.
