Biography

PERSONAL: Oakes was named to the Canadian Paralympic team in 2016 and was the youngest member of the national team. At 17, Oakes lost the lower portion of her right leg in a boating accident. Instead of giving up on sports, Oakes worked hard to come back and has shown why she has won so many accolades. Oakes has also been a member of the Alberta Provincial team, and helped her club team to a third-place finish in the summer of 2016 at the provincial tournament. Alongside her personal achievements with the Canuck Volleyball club she has supported her high school team as captain, and helped win back-to-back city championships for William Aberhart High School. On top of both high school championships, she has also helped her team to a championship at provincials in her senior year, and acquired the Personal-Grit award and Guts of the Year award.
