Biography

PERSONAL: Zhao began his volleyball career playing for two seasons in China, where his team finished as second-best in a Beijing league. For four years Shawn played with Richmond's Air Attack Volleyball Club, where he was named an All-Star in 2017. He also has some familiarity with coach Brad Hudson when both were involved with Team BC for two years.  Asked why he chose UBC Okanagan, Zhao cited the Heat volleyball program and the campus's reputation as a positive academic atmosphere.

 UBC OKANAGAN HEAT 2017-18 (1ST YEAR)

  • Played in the final conference game of the season against Manitoba where he recorded his first career kill in a Heat uniform.
  • Was named an Academic All-Canadian in first rookie season with the Heat.

UBC OKANAGAN 2018-19 (2ND YEAR)

  • Saw action in 10 conference matches including eight of the final nine.
  • Racked up 13 kills, eight digs and eight blocks.
