KELOWNA, BC — Despite having the biggest crowd of the year, thanks to the arrival of the newest class of students, the UBCO Heat suffered a loss to the UBC Thunderbirds 5-0 on Friday at Nonis Sports Field.

The Heat generated two shots, both on goal from Allan Yin, while facing 33 shots. Ronan Woodroffe played the full 90 minutes in goal and made 13 saves. Ian Klumpen and Kai Gauthier both collected two defensive saves. 

Oliver Herbert scored three goals to lead the Thunderbirds, while Max Comsia contributed the game-winning goal, along with two assists. Meanwhile, Hayden Franks played the full 90 minutes as the starting goalkeeper, achieving a clean sheet with one save.
 

UBC controlled the first half statistically, outshooting UBCO and earning all five corner kicks while taking a 3-0 lead into halftime. Woodroffe made seven saves, and the Heat added five defensive saves, including two by Klumpen, during a half in which Herbert scored twice for the Thunderbirds.

In the second half, UBC scored two more, with Herbert finishing a Rukavina assist at the 48th minute and Eric Lajeunesse adding another in the 61st minute in a 5-0 final. The Heat faced 11 Thunderbirds' shots and six corner kicks in the half, while Yin accounted for both UBCO shots on goal.

Up next, the Heat host the Thompson Rivers WolfPack on Sunday, Sept. 6, 2026, at 2:45 p.m. at Nonis Sports Field where they look to obtain an early edge in the Presidents' Cup race.
