ABBOTSFORD, B.C. — The UBCO Heat battled the Fraser Valley Cascades to a 2-2 draw Saturday at Rotary Stadium. The Heat struck twice in the opening half to take a 2-1 lead into the break before the Cascades scored the lone goal of the second half to level the match.
UBCO's Brooke Burrows scored on her lone shot, putting the attempt on goal, while Maria Georgacacos added a goal and led the team with three shots, including two on net. Both Aileen Ryou and Haden Thomas recorded an assist.
Kiana Langston scored twice on two shots for UFV, while Jenna Ericson recorded their lone assist. Addy Chen played all 90 minutes in goal and made two saves.
Burrows opened the scoring on her lone shot, slotting it nicely into the bottom left off a smooth touch pass assist from Ryou in the eighth minute. Fraser Valley then answered in the 31st minute, with Kiana Langston converting her first of two goals on her only shot of the half to bring the match level. UBCO regained the lead eight minutes later when Georgacacos found the back of the net off an assist from Haden Thomas. The Calgary product led the Heat with three shots, including two on goal as UBCO carried a 2-1 advantage into halftime.
Fraser Valley controlled more of the offence after the break, outshooting UBCO 7-3 and putting three attempts on net. Langston then went on to score her second of the afternoon in the 76th minute off an assist from Jenna Ericson to tie the match at 2-2.
The Heat generated three corners and two shots on goal in the second half, with Megan Sun involved in the early set-piece pressure. Allyson Ford made two saves to help preserve the draw and earn the Heat their first point of the season.
The Heat will return home next week on Friday, Sept. 25, when they host the Trinity Western Spartans at 5 p.m. at Nonis Sports Field.
