KAMLOOPS, B.C. — The UBCO Heat fell 101-89 to the Thompson Rivers WolfPack on Sunday at the Thompson Capital Centre. The 24-point first-half deficit proved too much to overcome despite the Heat outscoring the WolfPack 53-43 in the second half.
Isaak Moore led the Heat with 18 points, knocking down four three-pointers, while
Anthony Brady added 16 points, six rebounds, five assists, and two steals. Off the bench,
Wil Zylyk chipped in 14 points, while
Mike Adarkwah-Nti added 12 points and five assists.
For the WolfPack, Jaeden Bynoe paced his team with 23 points off the bench, going a perfect 6-for-6 from the line. Jayden Stephens and Steve Stinson each added 13 points, while Jayden Green ran the offence with 12 points and eight assists.
Brady opened the scoring with a pair of early layups to give the Heat a 4-3 lead, and Adarkwah-Nti's basket tied it 6-6. The WolfPack pulled away from there as the Heat went 0-for-5 from beyond the arc and committed six turnovers in the quarter. Brady had eight points in the frame, but the Heat trailed 28-16 after one.
A late UBCO response started when Brady's layup with just over two minutes remaining sparked an 11-0 run that carried into the third quarter. Before that, TRU created separation while UBCO committed eight turnovers in the quarter, with the WolfPack scoring 17 points off those turnovers. The Heat were outscored 30-20 in the second despite controlling the glass with six offensive rebounds.
After TRU moved ahead 71-49, UBCO answered with a 7-0 run as Adarkwah-Nti hit two free throws,
Dom Zaino added a tip-in, and Zylyk made a key three-pointer. Late three-pointers from
Tarun Saroya and Moore followed as UBCO finished the quarter 4-for-7 from beyond the arc while outscoring TRU 26-20. Despite the Heat's push, the WolfPack held a 78-62 advantage into the fourth.
Another UBCO run opened the fourth, with Saroya making two free throws and Moore scoring twice to trim the deficit to eight. The hosts later pushed the lead to 20 before three late three-pointers from Zylyk and Moore helped UBCO outscore TRU 27-23 in the quarter. The comeback effort fell short, however, as the WolfPack secured the 101-89 victory.
