Heat fall short against Timberwolves

KELOWNA, B.C. — The UBCO Heat fell to the UNBC Timberwolves 4-0 on Friday at Nonis Sports Field. The Heat were limited to three shots on goal while facing 26 shots from their opponent. 

Ronan Woodroffe made 11 saves while playing all 90 minutes in net, while Gavin La Montagne led UBCO with three shots, including one on goal and Ian Klumpen recorded a defensive save and added one shot.

UNBC's Mehdi Bounaaja scored twice, added an assist and led his team with nine shots. Kaiden Young made six shots, with one of them finding the back of the net, while Ryder Rusman added an unassisted goal on two shots. Callum Cuthbert made three saves over 90 minutes to record the clean sheet.

Within the first half the Heat generated seven corner kicks, including four in the opening 16 minutes and three more in a late flurry. The Timberwolves held an 11-6 shot advantage with Woodroffe making five saves as the visitors scored twice to take a 2-0 lead into halftime.

The Heat were under pressure throughout the second half, with the Timberwolves recording 15 shots and scoring twice while Woodroffe made six saves and Klumpen added a defensive save. Bounaaja accounted for both UNBC goals after halftime, including a 78th minute penalty kick that sealed the game 4-0. 

Up next, UBCO hosts the UFV Cascades on Sunday, Oct. 11, at 2:45 p.m. at Nonis Sports Field for the Graduating Athlete Celebration as the team recognizes Matthew Alexander, Carter Brown, Dario Fedele, and Ronan Woodrooffe.
