Women’s basketball splits preseason games on home court

Heat go shot-for-shot with defending Canada West bronze medalist Alberta on Friday before posting big win over Manitoba on Saturday

Box Score 1 KELOWNA, B.C. – The UBCO Heat women's basketball team continued their preseason schedule on home court this past weekend, taking on the Alberta Pandas and the Manitoba Bisons.
 
On Friday night against the Pandas, the Heat went shot-for-shot against the defending Canada West bronze medalists, coming up just short over the last three minutes of the fourth quarter to lose 73-69.
 
Third-year forward Stef Hart led the way for the Heat with 15 points while Kanani Coon added 13 points for the hosts.
 
Saturday, the Heat battled the Bisons and earned their second win of the preaseason with a dominant 86-54 win.
 
Third-year forward Tennyson McCarthy had another big night for UBCO, hosting 12 points and 13 rebounds to lead the Heat to the win.
 
UBCO will hit the road this weekend to continue exhibition play as they face two more tough Canada West opponents in the Regina Cougars and defending national champion Saskatchewan Huskies. The Heat open in Regina against the Cougars on Friday, October 3 at 1 p.m. followed by a showdown with the Huskies in Saskatoon on Saturday, October 4 at 3 p.m.
