Women's soccer earns point on the road against Cascades

Ford records second clean sheet in three starts as UBCO and UFV draw 0-0

ABBOTSFORD, B.C. — The UBCO Heat (2-3-2) and the UFV Cascades (2-5-2) played to a scoreless draw at Rotary Stadium on Friday night.

The host Cascades got off to a strong start in this match as they controlled the opening half. Kiana Langston had a header attempt in the fourth minute that was saved by UBCO goalkeeper Allyson Ford

Ford was tested multiple times throughout the opening 45 minutes, successfully saving shots by Jenna Ericson and Emerson Toop. UFV's Camryn Lyon was active on corners, delivering five in the half, though none resulted in goals. UBCO's Sydney Kolodziej managed a shot in the 35th minute, which was saved by UFV's Alana Madec. The first half concluded with no goals, leaving the match scoreless.

The second half between UBCO and UFV remained a scoreless affair, marked by multiple attempts from both sides. UBCO's Kolodziej tested UFV goalkeeper Madec with a shot in the 52nd minute, which was saved. The Heat continued to pressure with attempts by Abigail Taneda at the 57th minute and Haden Thomas at the 65th, both saved by Madec.

A crucial moment came when Maria Georgacacos hit the post in the 81st minute, narrowly missing a chance to break the deadlock. Despite a late yellow card for UFV's Eesha Mudaliar, the match concluded with neither team finding the net.

Kolodziej recorded two shots, both on target, showcasing her offensive involvement. Georgacacos attempted three shots, while Taneda registered one shot, which was on goal. Goalkeeper Ford played the entire match, making four saves and securing a shutout, her second in three starts for the Heat.

In their next game, UBCO travels to Langley, B.C., to face the Trinity Western Spartans on Saturday, September 27. The match is set to kick off at 6 p.m. as the team continues their road schedule.
