KELOWNA, B.C. — The University of British Columbia Okanagan and the University of Victoria ended in a scoreless draw at Nonis Field on Friday.

The first half saw Victoria maintaining a persistent offensive presence. The Vikes attempted numerous shots with Malia Phelan and Sophie Murphy each having shots saved by the Heat's goalkeeper, Talia Gagnon, at the 15th and 45th minutes respectively. Victoria also earned several corner kicks, with Ruby Nicholas taking three corners, contributing to their aggressive play. 

Despite Victoria's offensive efforts, UBCO's defence, led by Gagnon, held strong, keeping the score at 0-0 by the end of the half.

The second half began with the Heat's Annika Gross taking an early shot in the 48th minute, which was saved by Victoria's goalkeeper Stefanie Mocnik.  

Shortly after, one of the game's best chances fell to Heat rookie Haden Thomas as she was sent in alone but again Mocnik was there to deny the freshman of her first Canada West goal.

Neither team would generate much in the way of quality scoring opportunities from there on out as the game ended in a goalless draw.

Gagnon stood out for the Heat with six saves, maintaining a shutout in 90 minutes played. Sun made an impact on offense with two shots, one of which was on goal. Thomas contributed with a shot on goal, while Gross also had one shot on goal in her performance.

The next challenge for the Heat awaits as they take on their sister-school rivals, the UBC Thunderbirds. The match is set for August 30 at 4:30 p.m. on their home turf at Nonis Sports Field. Admission is free for all fans.
