Women’s basketball drops pair of preseason games in Saskatchewan

Heat fall to the Cougars on Friday night before losing to reigning national champion Huskies on Saturday

Box Score 1 SASKATOON, Sask. – The UBCO Heat women's basketball team fell to the Regina Cougars and Saskatchewan Huskies in preseason action this weekend as they continued preparations for the 2025-26 season.
 
On Friday in Regina, the Heat jumped out to an early lead on the Cougars but a big second quarter from the hosts proved to be the difference in a 67-53 setback for UBCO.
 
Second-year forward Sydney Lewis had a big game off the bench for the Heat, scoring a team-high 13 points to go along with eight rebounds while third-year Kanani Coon added 12 points and eight rebounds of her own.
 
Saturday in Saskatoon, the Heat battled the reigning U SPORTS Champions, the Saskatchewan Huskies, suffering a 106-50 loss.
 
Coon led the way for the Heat in the game, scoring 20 points.
 
UBCO will have one final preseason test before the regular season gets underway when they host the Calgary Dinos of Friday, October 17 at the UBCO Gymnasium. Tipoff is set for 8 p.m.
