Men’s basketball falls to York Lions in preseason play

Fifth-year guard Jalen Shirley continued his strong play to start the year with 23 points in 89-82 loss

TORONTO – The UBCO Heat men's basketball team dropped an 89-82 decision to the York Lions in preseason action on Saturday afternoon.
 
The Heat jumped out to an early advantage on the host Lions, leading York 48-36 at halftime. However, the Lions responded with a strong second half to come away with the victory.
 
Fifth-year guard Jalen Shirley continued his strong early season play for the Heat, scoring a team-best 23 points to go along with five rebounds and three assists. Third-year guar Isaak Moore added 19 points while Lamine Conde had 14 points and eight rebounds.
 
The Heat will wrap up their preseason schedule next weekend in Winnipeg when they compete in the Manitoba Bisons preseason tournament. UBCO will face the host Bisons, the Winnipeg Wesmen and the Lakehead Thunderwolves over three days from Thursday, October 9 to Saturday, October 11.
