Fourth-year earns first all-star nod for the Heat since 2022, placing ninth, as UBCO finishes seventh in team standings

VICTORIA, B.C. – UBCO Heat men's cross country runner Owen Lloyd ran to a ninth-place finish to lead his team at the 2025 Canada West Championships hosted on Saturday by the Victoria Vikes.

Lloyd, competing at his fourth Canada West Championship, had the best result of his career, posting a time of 26 minutes, 30.2 seconds, as he finished just over a minute behind the Vikes' Jaxon Kuchar, who took home gold.

Thanks to his outstanding time, Lloyd earned himself a nod as a Canada West Second Team All-Star, becoming UBCO's first all-star in men's cross country since Trevor Hofbauer in 2022.

Kyle Porter was the only other member of the Heat to snag a spot inside the top 50, placing 45th in 27:39.7.

As a team, the Heat finished seventh in the team standings as they accumulated 181 points, improving two spots on their ninth-place finish from a year ago.

The Heat will close out the cross country season in two weeks' time when they head to Quebec for the 2025 U SPORTS Championships. The event is set for Saturday, November 8 and will be hosted by the Sherbrooke Vert et Or.
