KELOWNA, B.C. - With three weeks remaining in the Canada West regular season, the action for the UBC Okanagan Heat basketball and volleyball teams heat's up this weekend as they battle for to secure their spot in the postseason.
On home court, the 2024-25 Presidents' Cup competitions come to a close as the Heat and Thompson Rivers WolfPack meet for the final time this season on the basketball court. UBCO leads both the men's and women's competitions by a score of 3-2 and will just need a single win by each gender to secure this year's trophies.Â
Friday's game for the UBCOÂ men will be a School Day Game affair as close to 800 local elementary and middle school students will be in attendance to cheer on the Heat. On Friday evening, the Heat women's basketball team will be raising funds for their
Shoot for a Cure campaign. Both teams will be looking for crucial victories this season as they battle for the fifth and final playoff spot in the Pacific division with six games remaining on their schedule.
Meanwhile, the Heat volleyball teams hit the road to take on the Saskatchewan Huskies. The Heat men need one win, plus Mount Royal and Thompson Rivers to lose once this weekend, in order to secure their third-ever Canada West playoff berth. As for the women, who are fresh off a bye week, they will be looking to improve upon their 10th-place ranking in the conference as they push for a home-playoff date in the opening round.

Men's basketball will finally be back in front of the home crowd for their first home matches in two months, eager to get back in the win column during Presidents'Â Cup Weekend.
Earlier this season, the men nearly overcame TRU in a close battle, but ultimately fell just short 83-79 in Kamloops. With the Presidents' Cup on the line this weekend, you can expect the Heat to come out flying, particularly on Friday in front of a large crowd. A major milestone is also on the rise as fourth-year guard Jalen Shirley is only nine points away from smashing the 1,000 career points threshold.Â

Coming off a weekend split, women's basketball is set to return home, ready to take on the TRU WolfPack. In their first meeting back in October, the Heat earned a 71-47 victory over TRU.
Last weekend, the Heat were in Langley, where they secured a massive win on Thursday against the Trinity Western Spartans. Every player on the court that night put their name on the boards as the team posted their largest margin of victory of the season, a 78-50 victory over the Spartans. Tsuki Tzuki recorded a career-high six steals, while Tennyson McCarthy also set a career high with 10 rebounds.

Men's volleyball is on the road this weekend as they travel to the Prairies to face the U SPORTS No. 7-ranked Saskatchewan Huskies.
Last weekend the Heat had a commanding weekend sweep against the MRU Cougars and were led by UBCO and Canada West Athlete of the Week Zach van Geel. Over the two-game weekend, the fourth year setter put up a total of 72 assists with Saturday night's 43 assists setting a new season-best mark for van Geel. The successful weekend saw an electric Friday night performance from middle's Ashton South and Thys Weststrate who on Friday night combined for 18 kills in the three-set sweep over the Cougars

Coming off a bye weekend, women's volleyball is taking a trip to Saskatchewan where they will have a double header weekend against the Saskatchewan Huskies as they continue their hunt for a Canada West playoff spot.
Madison Gardner, a third-year middle, sits fifth in Canada West in blocks per set averaging 0.97 per set. The Heat will look to senior outside hitter Amaya Perry heading into this weekend as she has been a consistent offensive performer on the court this season with 138 kills and 20 service aces. She enters the weekend with 155 career aces and needs two acces to move into fifth all-time in conference history while five aces would move her into third all-time.
