Heat hire Theo Wan as Sports Information and Game Day Operations Coordinator

Wan joins UBCO from Brock University and brings over six years of sports information and game day operations experience to the role

KELOWNA, B.C. – The UBCO Heat are excited to announce the hiring of Theo Wan as the department's new Sports Information and Game Day Operations Coordinator.

Wan comes to UBCO from Brock University where he's served as their Sports Information Coordinator for nearly three years. He's also previously worked at Royal Military College and the University of Toronto in similar roles.

"We're excited to have Theo join our growing team here at UBCO," commented Jamie Howieson, Marketing and Community Engagement Strategist with the Heat. "He brings a wide range of experiences from his time with the Badgers, Paladins and Varsity Blues in the OUA while hosting multiple conference and national championships. He's going to be a valuable piece in helping us raise both our communications and game day hosting moving forward."

"I'm thrilled to be joining a team that is committed to elevating the student-athlete experience," commented Wan on joining the Heat. "I look forward to helping create a memorable game day atmosphere that brings together members of the Okanagan community. I can't wait to get started and meet the outstanding student-athletes, coaches and staff who make the Heat such a special program."

A graduate of the University of Guelph, Western University and Humber College, Wan began his career in sports information with the Varsity Blues in 2021-22.

He moved on to the Paladins for a season before starting at Brock in September of 2023. During his time with the Badgers, he helped grow Brock's social media followers by over 5000 on Instagram while starting an internship program for the communications team at Brock Sports & Recreation in collaboration with the University's Sport Management program and faculty members.

He was also involved in executing communications for nine championships, including the 2025 Wrestling Canada Lutte U SPORTS Invitational Championships and three OUA Quigley Cup Championships. He was part of Brock's team that won an OUA C.H.A.M.P. award in 2024 for the hosting of the OUA Swimming Championships.

His time at Brock also saw him support EDI-focused initiatives, including launching a Black History Month Open Letter Series and leading department campaigns for mental health awareness and the U SPORTS Shoot for the Cure initiative. Additionally, he collaborated with external media partners, including BP Sports Niagara, to expand coverage and visibility of Brock's varsity teams across the Niagara Region.

"My time with Brock Sports and Recreation was a key step in my professional development, and I'm thankful for the leadership and guidance I experienced there over the past three years," added Wan. "Being able to lead communications for major provincial and national events is something I look forward to building upon during my time with the Heat. Collaborating with colleagues across the OUA was something I greatly appreciated, and I'm excited to build new relationships with members of Canada West."

Wan will officially begin his role with the Heat on August 17.
