EDMONTON - The UBC Okanagan Heat women's basketball team fell to the USPORTS No. 8-ranked Alberta Pandas 85-57 on Saturday at the Saville Community Sports Centre in Edmonton.
Despite the loss,
Lauren Foullong made team history as she became just the second Heat player to record 100 three-pointers in their career, connecting on five of her 10 three-point attempts in the contest. She now sits at 104 for her time with the Heat, trailing only Emily Kanestar who had 132 during her time at UBCO. Foullong would finish the game with a team-high 15 points.
Tsuki Tsuzuki also contributed significantly for the Heat with 10 points, shooting 44.4 percent from the field, and added three assists.
Aiko Williams was efficient off the bench, scoring seven points on 60 percent shooting while also providing three assists.
Kelsey Falk added 10 points and grabbed five rebounds, making both of her three-point attempts.Â
Reece Hall led Alberta with a standout performance, recording 16 points, 14 rebounds, and five assists. Hall's shooting was efficient, hitting seven of nine baskets.
Claire Signatovich contributed significantly with 14 points and seven rebounds, while also adding four assists and two steals. Jayden Tanner was another key player, scoring 17 points, including one three-pointer, and maintaining a 77.8 percent shot accuracy.Â
After a close opening quarter, in which the Heat trailed by just six points, the Pandas used a 14-2 run in the second quarter to take control of the contest as they led 50-28 at the half.
The nationally-ranked Pandas wouldn't allow the Heat an opportunity to rally in the second half as they shot 54 percent from the floor to cruise to the victory.
The loss drops the Heat's record to 3-9 on the season while Alberta moves into a tie for first in the Prairie division with their eight straight win as they sit at 10-2.
UBCO's four-game road trip continues next weekend as they head to Langley, B.C., to take on the Trinity Western Spartans (7-5) on Thursday, January 23. Game time is set for 6 p.m. and the game can be seen live on CanadaWest.tv presented by BioSteel.
