Heat golf wrap up fall 2024 season at Firestorm Invitational

Alexander-Carew leads women to runner-up finish, while Gillis powers men's performance

BUCKEYE, Ariz. – The UBC Okanagan Heat golf teams concluded their 2024 fall season with a strong showing at the Firestorm Invitational, an NCAA DII event held at Verrado Golf Club.

The women's team earned a spot on the podium, securing second place with a total score of 35-over par after two rounds. They shot 17-over par in the opening round to take the lead, but slipped to second place with an 18-over par score in the final round.

Leading UBCO was Julia Alexander-Carew, the second-year from Oakville, Ont., who finished tied for first place with a total of one-over par guiding the team to the second-place finish. She would ultimately finish second after losing in a playoff to Keira Chang from Southern Oregon. Lauren Nedo also earned a spot in the top ten, tying for seventh at eight-over par.

On the men's side, Ryan Gillis of Calgary, Alta., delivered a strong performance to finish tied for sixth with a total of three-over par. After an opening round of five-over par, he bounced back with a two-under par in round two and a even-par final round. The men's team finished seventh overall.
