Box Score KELOWNA, B.C. – The UBC Okanagan Heat men's basketball team settled for a weekend split with the Trinity Western Spartans after suffering an 83-73 setback at the UBCO Gymnasium on Saturday night.
In the second game of the weekend doubleheader between the two teams, the visitors were able to build a first-half lead, similar to Friday night, as they held a 43-24 advantage after two quarters.
Unlike on Friday, however, the Heat were unable to overcome the deficit despite outscoring the Spartans 49-40 in the second half.
Fifth-year forward
Jas Dhudwal of Surrey, B.C., had his best night of the young season as he finished with a monster double-double of 15 points and 16 rebounds to lead the way for UBCO.
Gavin Ashworth of Grande Prairie, Alta., playing through a hand injury, added 13 points while
DJ Frye of Ogden, Utah chipped in with 12.
David Mutabazi of Delta, B.C., and Jerric Palma of Richmond, B.C., led the way for Trinity Western, finishing with 22 and 20 points respectively.
The loss drops the Heat to 2-4 on the season while the Spartans earn their first win, moving to 1-5.
UBCO will return to action next weekend when they travel to Prince George to take on the UNBC Timberwolves. Game one of the weekend doubleheader is set for Friday, November 22 at 8 p.m. and the action can be seen live on CanadaWest.tv presented by BioSteel.
