VICTORIA - The UBC Okanagan Heat women's basketball team settled for a weekend split following a 76-63 loss to the Victoria Vikes Saturday evening on Vancouver Island.
Led by Abigail Becker's (Parksville, B.C.) 29 points, the Vikes earned their first victory of the season.
A 9-0 UBCO run saw the visitors grab the lead early in the matchup but a resounding 13-0 run in the second quarter put the Vikes ahead for the remainder of the game.
A major aspect of the Vikes success was their work on the offensive glass. Victoria pulled down 22 offensive boards leading to 25 second-chance points.
Jaeli Ibbetson would led all UBCO scorers with 16 points while Ainsa Lluch dished out a team-high five assists.
Kelsey Falk grabbed 11 rebounds including eight offensive boards.
