Men’s basketball suffers tough loss to No. 2 Vikes.

Heat start strong but falter, ultimately falling to U SPORTS No. 2 Vikes.

VICTORIA, B.C. - The UBC Okanagan Heat men's basketball team faced a challenging weekend as they were swept by the U SPORTS No. 2-ranked Victoria Vikes on Saturday evening at the CARSA Performance Gym in Victoria.

In the opening quarter, Hafith Moallin, a guard from Mississauga, Ont., scored UBCO's opening basket.
  Jalen Shirley, a third-year guard hailing from Brampton, Ont., emerged as a standout player tonight, driving the Heat's momentum in the first half. He showcased his efficiency, knocking down 5-of-6 shots, totaling 14 points in the opening 20 minutes.
  Adding to the first-half highlights, Gavin Ashworth, a third-year guard from Grande Prairie, Alta., sealed the first half with a buzzer-beating basket, ensuring our team ended on a high note before halftime.
Despite UBCO's efforts, the Vikes were able to hold onto their lead throughout the remainder of the game,  ultimately securing a decisive 115-65 victory.

TOP PERFORMERS 

Jalen Shirley – UBCO

The third-year guard led the Heat charge with an impressive 19 points and with four makes from three point land.

Diego Maffia – UVIC

The fourth year guard from Victoria, B.C. once again led the Vikes in scoring with 29 points. He ended up finishing the game shooting 7-of-13 from deep, the second-most made three pointers in a Canada West game this season. 

WHERE THEY SIT

Following this weekend's losses, UBCO now stand at 2-8 in the Canada West standings, while Victoria advances to 7-1 with the win.
