Men's volleyball drops three-set decision to Bobcats

Playing their first match in Brandon since 2019, the Heat pushed the Bobcats late in a battle on the prairies

BRANDON, Man. - Playing in Brandon for the first time in nearly 5 years, the UBC Okanagan Heat men's volleyball team dropped game one of a weekend doubleheader with the Brandon Bobcats in three sets on Friday night.

In the first two sets of the night, the Heat stayed on the heels of the Bobcats not letting them build too big a gap. Despite their efforts the visiting team just couldn't get to the finish line first and the Bobcats gained a two-set lead.

Peter Labun, a rookie from Winnipeg, started the night as a libero and ended as an outside hitter.  With a position switch up from coach Brad Hudson, Labun showed just how versatile he can be. In the third set, he displayed his offensive abilities as he found the open pocket putting down the kill to shorten the Bobcat lead. In the final set was the closest of the evening as the Heat fell behind early before making a late charge, turning up their intensity. UBCO managed to push the match past 25 but were unable to pull out the set win as they fell in three.
